Pupils representing schools from across Portsmouth came together at the Central Library on 29th April for the Portsmouth Book Award (Longer Novel) Discussion and Voting event, organised by the School Library Service. This included a Springfield team of eight keen readers from Years 8 and 9 who, under the guidance of Portsmouth University student teachers, discussed the merits of the shortlisted titles with their peers.

After careful consideration of specified criteria, the pupil judges voted for the books they felt deserved to be in the final three, and these were:

‘Boy 87’ by Ele Fountain

‘Boy Meets Hamster’ by Birdie Milano

‘The Survival Game’ by Nicky Singer

The winner will be announced at the Celebration event which takes place at Action Stations on 12th June.
