We have received this message from Ski 2 and wish to share this with parents/carers of the pupils going on the February half term ski trip:

Ski 2 is aware that there was an avalanche in the Italian resort of Courmayeur on 3rd February (another resort in the Aosta Valley). Ski 2 and Monterosa ski (the Italian company that manages the lift system of the Champoluc ski area) are very aware of their responsibilities as regards the safety of their clients. The authorities work hard to ensure that all the pistes are kept safe and, if there is any doubt about the security of skiers in relation to avalanches or any other natural dangers, the pistes are kept closed. The avalanche in Courmayeur yesterday was in an area away from the main resort and the people involved in this tragic accident were a good distance from the main pistes in an area that is deemed to be ‘off piste’. Pupils from Springfield School only ski in groups with a qualified ski instructor and these instructors are not permitted to take their pupils off-piste. We are confident that the Ski 2’s safety procedures and those of Monterosa ski are robust and minimise any danger to any clients in our care.

Many thanks
Mr Lomas, Head of Enterprise and PDL
