The school was buzzing with excitement on Thursday, 5 March, as staff members transformed into beloved literary characters to celebrate World Book Day. This annual event encourages a love for reading and creativity, and this year, it was marked by a spectacular display of costumes that captivated both students and teachers alike.
At break time the Main Hall was alive with colour and imagination as staff members showed off their costumes representing their favourite book characters. This year showed an impressive amount of variety and creativity including a hilarious performance by our Deputy Headteachers Mr Wilburn and Mr Wharton who dressed as Lady Macbeth and Macbeth.
It was a difficult decision for the judge, Ms Spivey, Headteacher to decide on the winners (individual and group). However, School Librarian Mrs Williams stole the spotlight with her portrayal of ‘The One and Only Ivan’, capturing the essence of the gentle gorilla from Katherine Applegate’s beloved novel. Her costume was not only creative but also a testament to her passion for literature and the power of storytelling. Meanwhile, the dynamic duo from the Drama Department, Mrs Needham and Mrs Brown, brought smiles to everyone's faces with their delightful rendition of The Mister Men series characters. Dressed as Mr Small and Mr Bump, they perfectly embodied the whimsical and humorous spirit of Roger Hargreaves's classic children's books.
Our World Book Day celebration serves as a reminder of the joy and inspiration that books bring into our lives, and will hopefully encourage students to explore new stories and characters. Happy reading to all!
