The Year 10 boys’ football team delivered a masterclass in resilience this week, securing their place in the Hampshire Cup semi-finals after a well contested, competitive encounter with Priestlands School. The boys started the match with high intensity, controlling the tempo from the whistle. Their efforts were rewarded midway through the first half when George Minty broke the deadlock. It was a great strike that flew into the roof of the net, giving the team a well-deserved 1–0 lead. Priestlands proved to be tough opponents, clawing their way back into the game with an equaliser just before the half-time break. They carried that momentum into the second half, scoring early to take a 2–1 lead and putting our boys on the back foot. Refusing to be beaten, the team showed incredible work ethic and determination. With only 15 minutes remaining, the equaliser arrived in style. George Minty found space from a corner and using his weaker foot, unleashed a clinical strike to level the score at 2–2. With the scores level at the final whistle, the game went straight to a penalty shoot-out. The pressure was on but the team remained composed throughout. George Martin, Jayden Deck, Luke Causer, Ollie Mo and George Minty all showed great composure, each slotting their penalties calmly into the back of the net. Aiden Storey produced a massive performance in goal, making a crucial save that helped secure the victory for the team.
An outstanding all-around performance, defined by resilience, determination and teamwork. The boys now look forward to a local semi-final tie against Purbrook School!
