On Wednesday, 11 February a group of Year 8 pupils were invited to attend an 'Up for Uni' event at the University of Portsmouth where they were able to explore the campus and experience taster workshops in media, psychology/sociology and politics, encouraging them to think about their upcoming option choices for GCSE.
"The University of Portsmouth trip was one of the best trips I've been on. Our first session was about film production and we got to learn how to use the cameras and speak on TV. This was my favourite because it was really interactive and practical. I also really enjoyed the lie detection session, we got to play a mini game of traitors with our table and learnt some really interesting things about how people lie." Alice Larcome 8D
"The University of Portsmouth trip was a really fun adventure, we learnt a lot of different and interesting new subjects there which was really fun. My personal favourite was the lie detection game. I really enjoyed the trip." Zuri Sanchez 8D
"The University of Portsmouth trip was wonderful, I enjoyed all of the sessions as I got a chance to learn some sociology which is helpful for picking my options. In the film/ media workshop I probably got the only chance I'd ever have to use real camera equipment and I feel so lucky for getting to do this. I also loved the lie detection workshop as I learnt about some of the research behind learning the tells of a lie teller and I enjoyed the game of traitors as it improved my communication skills. I loved everything about it." Tabitha Tetley 8D
"I enjoyed the broadcasting workshop because I was able to move the cameras, pick the shots and move the script. I also enjoyed the lie detection session and learning how to detect lies." Jack Feasey 8D
Thank you to the University of Portsmouth for hosting such a wonderful opportunity.
