Springfield School launched its new Year 7 Maths Circles in the Autumn term, delivered in partnership with Axiom Maths—an organisation dedicated to nurturing mathematical curiosity and talent.
The Maths circle is a simple but powerful idea: a small group of pupils meeting weekly to explore rich, challenging mathematical problems together. These maths circles are designed not only to stretch pupils intellectually, but also to build a community where mathematical thinking is celebrated and shared.
In these sessions, pupils:
- Tackle challenging, structured problem sets that open the door to advanced and beautiful areas of mathematics.
- Learn to get stuck—and then get unstuck, developing resilience and the confidence to approach unfamiliar problems.
- Experience a sense of flow, free from tests or pressure, where the joy of discovery takes centre stage.
- Join a community that values mathematical thinking, giving them a social space where their curiosity and talent are recognised and encouraged.
- In December, our Maths Circle was visited by Elliot Cole from Axiom, who worked with our Mathematicians and Circle leader Miss Mason on a number of challenging problems.
