On 09 December, a small group of Year 9 pupils studying Design Technology had an interesting and enjoyable visit to the work taking place on the seafront as part of the Southsea Coastal Scheme. The day began with a presentation about the scheme, an ice breaking activity and a practical task relating to engineering. Pupils then heard short talks from professionals working on the scheme in engineering, communications, engagement and quantity surveying. This has given them a valuable insight into roles available in the construction industry in general and a deeper understanding of a significant local project.
After lunch, pupils donned PPE and were taken on a full tour of the Southsea Coastal Site and the works being completed. When Ms Burden arrived with the minibus, they looked so professional in their PPE, surrounded by the equipment that for a moment she mistook the group for full time workers!
Thanks to Mr Ware for accompanying the group and to Miss Holbrook, who so often generously gives her time to be a driver for school trips. Pupils really enjoyed the day and we would like to thank VolkerStevin, Southsea Coastal Scheme and the Solent Careers Hub for creating this amazing opportunity.
