Year 8 pupils have been working tirelessly during Music lessons and tutor time this term to prepare their tutor group song entry for the annual ‘Springfield Sings’ (Christmas edition).  On Friday, 12 December, the judges and audience were treated to lively renditions of several festive favourites, including 'Jingle Bell Rock', 'Step Into Christmas' and 'Underneath the Tree'.

The seasoned judges, Ms Spivey (Headteacher), Mr Waites, (Chief Financial and Operating Officer) and Mrs Evans, (School Nurse), cast their critical ears on each performance, and praised pupils for standing confidently on the stage, singing harmonies, as well as working together as a team to create engaging actions.

A special thank you goes to the Year 10 GCSE Music pupils, Evie Payne-Simmons, Lillia Maggs and Emma Butcher (10L) who were not only reliable sound technicians for the event, but gave fantastic solo performances whilst the judges were out making their decisions. Year 8 pupils thoroughly enjoyed this entertainment and sang along enthusiastically.

After a final ‘sing-off’, the judges awarded the first place prize to 8N who sang an engaging version of 'White Christmas' with a feature soloist, tuneful harmonies and a clear melody. Second place went to 8F who sang a confident rendition of ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ and were commended for adding some inclusive sign language. The third place prize was presented to 8S who performed ‘Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer’ with energy and enthusiasm.

Overall, Year 8 were certainly feeling and spreading seasonal cheer today, and we were delighted that they all participated with such enthusiasm and support for their peers.  Well done to everyone who took part!
