On 01 December, Springfield pupils were treated to a 'press conference' event with Portsmouth Football Club. On the panel was John Mousinho, Manager, and Max Swatton, Digital and Social Media Lead for the club. The event was chaired and organised by Charlie Gardiner, our link at the University of Portsmouth.

The event began with a talk about the work at the club and the many career paths available in the football industry. Pupils were encouraged to consider the supply chains in merchandise, catering and nutrition, physiotherapy, coaching, sales and other aspects of making the team successful. Pupils were also informed about the options that a university degree can create.
We then asked the visitors questions submitted in advance by pupils. These included how the team responds to a loss, thoughts about the next transfer window and the effect AI might have on the football industry.

At the end, we were touched that our visitors took the time to stay and sign shirts, answer further questions and pose for pictures with the students. Pupils left with a good understanding of how different professionals work as a team towards shared goals and of the diverse nature of career paths within the football world.
