A howling hat-trick from striker Millie Thomas (11P) secured a mighty 7-0 victory for Springfield over Castle View on 04 November, moving them closer to another consecutive Portsmouth Cup win. The hard-fought match saw the girls play in wet and windy conditions in order to reach their triumph.
Springfield set the tone early, with Lola Archbold (11G) scoring her first with a long-range effort around the fifth minute. Despite the opposition's pressure, Sophie George (11L) doubled the lead with a quality finish. Not long after Eleanor Donachie (10N) made the score line 3-0 after an accurate goal form just outside the box. A superb half from the girls, the rivals not getting anywhere close to any goal scoring opportunities as a result of the away sides solid defense.
The second half saw Springfield dominate consistently, with around 76% possession, as they capitalised on their advantage. As striker Millie Thomas (11P) stepped onto the pitch within seconds the ball was at her feet and in the goal, putting the scoreline to 4-0. The second half was Springfield's time to shine with more goals coming from Lola Archbold (11G) and two more from Millie Thomas (11P).
It was a deserved win for the Springfield Under 16s, who showed great resilience despite the nasty conditions. This result puts them further up the league table, closer to their goal.
Matilda Watts, 11G
