On 03 October, students in Years 10 and 11 had a chance to find out more about a career in football from Pompey in the Community, the social arm of Portsmouth FC. Alex Burt informed the group that The UK Sports industry and connected activity contributes £99.6 billion to the UK economy and employs about 1.25 million people. We looked at the salary scale of footballers in different leagues but also explored careers in the industry other than playing, such as in physiotherapy, film and camerawork, psychology, logistics and hospitality.
Alex then informed pupils about the post-16 courses on offer at Portsmouth FC, as the club is an education provider. Options include a Sports BTEC and a qualification in personal training. At a later stage, part of a degree programme in sports can also be pursued through Pompey in the Community.
We are very grateful to Alex for taking the time to visit and for giving such an informative talk.
