During week commencing 6 Octovber, we were lucky to have the Royal Navy STEM Education team visit to deliver practical sessions to some Year 7 pupils. Pupils rotated between three sessions. One was pneumatics, which involved pupils making a circuit and then testing it with a compressor. In this session, pupils also used a training computer game to find their way around a submarine. The second workshop was in electronics, with the room filled with the sound of buzzers and flying spinners as circuits were tested. Lastly, sphero robots were used to teach basic coding and introduce robotics. Throughout the sessions, six serving members of the Royal Navy were on hand to explain real world applications of the science and to discuss their career paths.

The presence of Royal Navy professionals inspired students by showcasing STEM career possibilities and encouraging teamwork and collaboration. These dynamic sessions significantly boosted student engagement and enthusiasm, making them an invaluable addition to traditional classroom learning.  We are very grateful to the Royal Navy for the opportunity.
