Attendees of Science Club on Tuesday, 30 September used their investigative skills by comparing the heat released from different crisps after being heated up on a Bunsen Burner. Pupils were split into groups of two to conduct the experiment whilst ensuring that they all had the same volume of water and start temperature which alloed them to compare their results. The crisps that gave off the most heat were Tesco Crinkle Cut (with an end temperature of 45 Degrees Celsius) and Doritos (with an end temperature of 60 Degrees Celsius). Next time Science Club undertake this experiment pupils decided that they will compare energy released from other crisps such as Pringles and Mini Cheddars.
This fun learning experience enhances critical thinking as students form hypotheses, conduct experiments, and analyse results. The process of applying the scientific method reinforces their understanding of systematic investigation and the importance of structured experimentation. Exploring relatable items like crisps can spark curiosity and make science more engaging, potentially motivating students to pursue further studies or careers in science-related fields.
