Year 9 have been tasked with creating a speech about a topic of interest, whereby they can argue their perspective on their chosen topic. The speeches should utilise beautiful vocabulary, compelling facts and various linguistic devices to persuade their listeners to hold the same opinion as they do themselves. Students have been working on drafting and rehearsing their speeches both at home and in lessons.

This is a great learning opportunity which enhances students' communication skills by teaching them to express ideas clearly and confidently. This also encourages critical thinking, enhances analytical skills and allows students to evidence and construct logical arguments. This gives a profound understanding and the ability to think critically about complex issues. Additionally, presenting a speech builds confidence, allowing them to become more self-assured in persuading and captivating an audience, which positively impacts other areas of their lives. We are very impressed how Year 9 have risen to this challenging aspect of the GCSE English Language qualification.
