On 18 March, Springfield welcomed Jade from Unloc, who ran a business and enterprise-focused 'Changemaker Challenge'. The event was sponsored by the company Verizon, and the session began with pupils learning about the importance of corporate and social responsibility in business (CSR), looking at Verizon's pillars of Human Prosperity, Digital Inclusion and Climate Protection. Students then had to choose from one of the pillars and design a business with a social purpose.

After coming up with a project plan, pupils used Canva on the school chromebooks to create a visual prototype of their idea. Sessions in team building, communication, money, marketing and pitching followed and, at the end of the day, groups pitched their idea "dragon's den" style to the rest of the group.

The challenge offered pupils a fantastic opportunity to learn about some of the principles of business and to practise public speaking. We are very grateful to Unloc and Verizon for facilitating the day.
