On Monday, 27 January, Year 8 students had the exciting opportunity to participate in a 'Careers Super Day' organised by EBP South. Throughout the day, students engaged in various sessions that provided insights into college and university life, thanks to the collaborative efforts of City of Portsmouth College and the University of Portsmouth. These sessions offered a glimpse into the academic environments that students might encounter in the future.
Developing Business Skills
In addition to learning about higher education, students had the chance to hone their business acumen through a team-building session. This activity allowed them to explore the concept of 'Employable Me', encouraging them to reflect on the qualities that could make them valuable assets in their first job search.
Business Speed Networking
The day also featured a dynamic business speed networking session. Students rotated through interactions with seven different employers, gaining firsthand knowledge about various career paths across a range of industries. Fields such as transport planning, motoring, and scientific research were represented, offering a broad perspective on potential career opportunities.
Alumni Inspiration
Adding a personal touch to the day, two Springfield alumni, Cerys Rogers and Tia Fletcher, returned to share their inspiring journeys since graduating from school. Their stories provided real-world examples of how education can shape future success.
Overall, the Careers Super Day was a valuable experience for Year 8 students, helping them to consider potential future pathways as they approach their GCSE option choices. It also provided a unique opportunity to connect with a diverse array of external providers, broadening their understanding of the professional world.
