Year 9 enjoyed a creative Focus Day today (Thursday, 16 January). The team from UNLOC came in and facilitated an upbeat session on how to build a business. Pupils engaged fully and enthusiastically when they were asked to come up with an idea for a subscription box and decide on the content. They looked at marketing whilst ensuring the financial side added up and pitched their idea to the UNLOC staff. Some of the ideas were fantastic and their knowledge of the products they wanted to sell was extensive. The educational benefits of this focus day are numerous. To highlight a few, pupils improved their skills in team work, organisation, collaboration and decision making. In addition, they also ensured the use of their own positive attributes to make their team project a success. We are delighted to share a few examples of the fantastic subscription boxes that pupils created.
Pupils also participated in a session on gambling and the effect that it can have on society and social circles. They were made aware of the serious effects of gambling, not only on the gambler but also the gambler's friends and family.
