The History of Maths is a new club running every Friday after school from 2.45pm to 3.45pm, where the topics, or timeline is chosen by the students. On Friday, 13 December students chose Euclid Elements and we discussed Book 1. As normal our conversation went off on a tangent, when I relayed the story of Aristotle's eureka moment of discovering displacement and a slightly heated debate on whether time was 'base 60'.
Attending the club offers students numerous benefits, from enhancing mathematical understanding to inspiring future careers. By exploring the rich history of mathematics, students can develop essential skills, promoting a deeper appreciation for the subject whilst building meaningful connections with others. This enriching experience can have a lasting impact on both academic and personal development.
All year groups are welcome!
