We are delighted to introduce a new extra-curricular club that was launched this academic year. The Crochet Club is unique in the fact that it was set up by some of our Year 8 students. Florence Loynes, one of the founding members explains more about the club:
'We wanted to start a crochet club and so we approached Miss Kavalieris and asked her if she could help us. She suggested that we start with a small number of pupils who knew how to crochet. We have started ‘project pickle’ where we are crocheting positive pickles to be gifted to pupils who may need some positivity. We are now a group of around eight and are nearly ready to take on new members. By meeting on a Wednesday after school since early in the autumn term we have been able to make fifty pickles (and a pea).'

The students involved in the club have not only enhanced their crochet skills but also the collaborative nature of the club encourages idea sharing and teamwork which builds social skills and a sense of belonging. The relaxing nature of crocheting also reduces stress and reduces anxiety. The concept of positive pickles is centered on spreading positivity. By crafting these items, students think about positive messages to share with others. This act of kindness can boost both the giver's and receiver's mood, providing a supportive and uplifting school environment.
