During a structured Focus Day on Thursday, 28 November Year 10 explored healthy relationships and sexual health. Along with equipping students on how to tell if a relationship is healthy or not students were given a greater understanding of the pros and cons of different forms of contraception and the consequences of not using contraception (both in terms of sexually transmitted infections and the chances of an unexpected pregnancy both with and without using protection). They discussed how sex should be a part of a loving relationship, the importance of consent and were given the opportunity to find out where they can get further help, guidance and information locally if they need it.

Educating Year 10 students about healthy relationships and sexual health is crucial for their personal development and well-being as it helps them understand the importance of consent and boundaries. This knowledge empowers them to make informed decisions and respect others' limits, encouraging a culture of mutual respect and safety which is key to forming strong, supportive relationships.  Comprehensive sexual health education can significantly reduce the incidence of risky behaviours. By providing accurate information on topics such as contraception, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and safe sex practices, students are better prepared to make safe and responsible choices.

Discussing topics related to relationships and sexual health encourages open dialogue between students, teachers, and parents. It normalises these conversations, making it easier for students to seek guidance and support when needed.
