On Tuesday, 12 November some of our Year 7 pupils enjoyed an enriching experience at the University of Portsmouth. They spent the day at the university to gaining a glimpse of academic life beyond school. They explored the facilities and developed a good understanding of university life and what being a university student involves. They heard accounts from current university students and were able to ask the students questions relating to their experiences; this gave them firsthand knowledge about university experiences including extracurricular activities and daily life. Pupils also took part in problem solving activities which tested their team work, critical thinking and resilience skills.
Exposure to university life at this age helps demystify higher education, making it feel more accessible and less intimidating which, in turn encourages them to think about their future educational and career paths, helping them set realistic and achievable goals.
The trip was an eye-opening experience for the pupils which focused on personal growth, academic development and future planning.
