On Tuesday, 05 November 2024, Year 7 students participated in an insightful Focus Day dedicated to understanding the themes of gambling and anti-bullying. The day aimed to educate students on the nature of gambling, its potential dangers, and the addictive behaviours it can foster. Additionally, the day focused on recognising, responding to, and preventing bullying.

Gambling Awareness

The sessions on gambling were conducted online with Gamcare, an organization that offers information, advice, and support for those affected by gambling-related harms. Through an engaging online workshop, students learned about what gambling entails. They discovered how some what is thought as every day activities, might constitute gambling. The workshop also highlighted available resources for individuals impacted by gambling.

Anti-Bullying Education

In the anti-bullying sessions, students gained a deeper understanding of what constitutes bullying, along with its potential consequences and the legal aspects surrounding persistent bullying. They were informed about where to seek help and support for those experiencing bullying.

Creative Campaigns

To channel their creativity, students designed vibrant wristbands with anti-bullying slogans and crafted posters for an anti-bullying campaign. These activities allowed them to express their commitment to spreading awareness and promoting a supportive community.

This informative day addressed significant issues, which Year 7 students approached with maturity. By building on their resilience skills, students are now better equipped to recognise risks, manage their own behaviours, and identify addiction or bullying in others to provide necessary support.
