Year 9 students have made a flying start to their GCSE Sociology course. They have started to explore the values and norms of their society and have been considering the role they have within society. Students are currently researching key figures in sociology including Emile Durkheim and Karl Marx. From here Year 9 students are getting ready to start making sense of key concepts such as social structures, processes and issues. The class has worked really hard at engaging with new and challenging ideas and we are looking forward to the upcoming units of Methodology and Sociology of the Family. Well done year 9! Studying sociology provides students with a deeper understanding of the social structures and processes that shape our world fostering critical thinking and analytical skills as students learn to evaluate evidence, construct arguments and consider different perspectives.
