The organisation Unloc visited Springfield on Tuesday, 11 June to deliver a 'Leadership Bootcamp' to thirty Year 10 students. The day included a talk from Hannah Murray, 'The Beautiful Mind Coach' about her previous challenging career in mental health nursing and her progression to coaching others with mindset and confidence. During the day students also learned about project planning, designing effective campaigns and collating and representing opinion. Pupil voice was valued and the day ended with group presentations about changes Year 10 students would like to see in the school.

Learning leadership skills empowers students to make informed decisions and use their problem-solving abilities which will assist them in improving their academic performance.

Students commented:

  • 'It was nice to do some fun activities in school for a change and work with friends to complete competitive challenges.'
  • 'I enjoyed it as it was fun and a new experience for me.'
  • 'The presentation as we were able to be creative and have fun with it.'
  • 'The games and activities, also working with new people and unlocking new friendships.'
  • 'Don't do what everyone else does and stick to your own path.'
