On 30 May 2023, as part of new plans to clamp down on youth vaping, the Prime Minister announced that: “action will also be taken in schools, making sure that dedicated police school liaison officers across the country are using new resources to keep illegal vapes out of schools”.

A letter has been sent by Policing Minister Chris Philp to all police school liaison officers in England:

- informing them about UK laws applying to nicotine vaping products and the role of trading standards, guidance to assist the development of school policies and how to report a suspeted injury associated with vaping.  

- signing posting to educational resources, including OHID's new vaping resource pack to be pubished on the School Zone website

- setting out the actions the government is taking to tackle vaping among youth, including a new £3m illicit vapess enforcement squad.
