The theme of our assemblies for the next two weeks focus on the incredible dedication of young carers in our community. Within the city of Portsmouth, there are over 1,000 registered young carers who look after a member of their family who may have a physical or mental disability where care is required. The type of care given can be anything from helping someone move from one place to another, or perhaps cleaning, washing and cooking, or even ensuring a family member is taking their medication on a regular basis.  Nationally, there are around 800,000 young carers with an average age of 12, so we feel it is important to acknowledge these incredible young people, but also to offer advice and support to those who identify as carers in our own community. During the assemblies, students will be given information on how to seek help if they feel they or others should need it.
