Approximately 15 Year 9,10 and 11 students have been working hard with the support of Portsmouth University since last October. They have built and designed a Formula 24 car (using a pre-made shell) in readiness for the Greenpower IET Formula 24 races. The races take place in regional heats and are open to 11 to 16 year olds with the aim to inspire engineers for the future. Test day took place on Sunday 9th March at Goodwood Motor Circuit, the conditions were good and they car performed reasonably well but didn’t quite achieve its 40 mph potential. Final adaptions will be made in readiness for the first heat on 8th June. Good luck!

''Inspiring Change" is the theme for 2014; Simon Ford, School Governor, linked his assembly this week to related ideas. Today, staff have been wearing 'Votes for Women' rosettes to prompt lively discussions with the students; there's also been some singing!
There are lots of resources on line with further information for young people and their families: www.internationalwomensday.com
Earlier this year, the Senior Prefect Team started to look at ways that Springfield could enable pupils to worked more frequently in mixed-age groups. More recently a small group of staff has volunteered to work with pupil representatives to discuss the implementation of a House System. Points discussed so far are fund-raising, competitions, student leadership and of course names. Watch this space!
Springfield will not be changing significantly its uniform, but will be updating it for September 2014. At the moment we are investigating options with our suppliers. The school community is keen to retain the red and gold that has long been associated with the school. We will update parents as soon as more information is available.
Needless to say, students will continue to be expected to be smartly presented and wear their uniform with pride!
Visitors to the school will notice some changes to the layout of reception. Springfield will be upgrading and redecorating this area over the coming months. We ask for your patience while the work is being carried out.
Six Y9 Springfield students have created a fan magazine for Portsmouth Football Club as part of a local Faith and Football Enterprise Challenge. Joseph Andrews, Iain Dorrington, Ethan Emery, Ben Hall, Edward Hall and Matthew Summers designed the magazine with the support of Langstone based company, Jobsite. 100% of the proceeds go to charity and we wish them every success with their enterprise.
